The 66th Venice International Film Festival is organized by the Venice Biennale. The first “Esposizione d’Arte Cinematografica” came into being in 1932 as part of the 18th Venice Biennale.
The very first film to be shown in the history of the Festival was Rouben Mamoulian’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, screened on 6 August 1932.
The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote all the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance.
