Best of MVN.com: Top 2009 NFL Draft Picks

Will the Detroit Lions’ selection of Matthew Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft be viewed as a brilliant move or a blunder? Big Al Beaton agrees that there is no in-between:

From The Wayne Fontes Experience:

The future of the Lions, and the careers of Martin Mayhew and The Schwartz, rests on the shoulders of a a 21-year-old college kid.

For this to be considered a successful signing, Stafford can’t be average. He can’t be a journeyman. He can’t be another Joey Blue Skies/Andre Ware/Chuck Long. No way in Hell, considering the money involved, can he be traded.

The best offensive lineman in the draft is off the board at No. 2, writes Greg Trippiedi. The St. Louis Rams replace Orlando Pace with Jason Smith, a big left tackle out of Baylor.

From MVN Outsider:

Jason Smith is not only one of the best players available, but arguably fills the biggest need in the entire draft: Rams LT. He’s a natural pass protector who still has work to do in the running game. This guy was the very best offensive player on the MVN Big Board, and he’s about as close to a sure fire prospect as you can get in the NFL draft.

Kansas City Chiefs fans, put the picket signs down, pleads Jon Yoon. Tyson Jackson, defensive end out of LSU, is a great pick for the Chiefs at No. 3.

From Home of the Chiefs:

I know for most of you, this is a head-scratcher and I promise you that there will be a bunch of pissed off co-workers at the water cooler complaining about this pick. But those guys don’t understand the basis of a 3-4 defense and I imagine many of them rely on a 4-3 draft board to determine draft value.
