The 66th Venice International Film Festival is organized by the Venice Biennale. The first “Esposizione d’Arte Cinematografica” came into being in 1932 as part of the 18th Venice Biennale.
The very first film to be shown in the history of the Festival was Rouben Mamoulian’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, screened on 6 August 1932.
The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote all the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance.

Usain Bolt crossed the finish line breaking world record in 100 m run, he managed to shave 0.11 seconds off his achievement at the Beijing Olympics last year, setting 9.58 seconds as the new world record.
Tyson Gay, the American runner arived second with 9.71 seconds
The awards ceremony, which honours celebrities in TV, film, music, sports and fashion, was held at Universal Studios’ Gibson Amphitheatre in California.
Twilight won 11 awards with Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson both won for best actors in a drama. Pattinson also won best male hottie award which is in the form of a surfboard. Co-stars Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner won for fresh face female and male.
Miley Cyrus, sang her newest single Party in the U.S.A. Cyrus took home six awards including best comedy TV actress and best comedy TV show for her series Hannah Montana.
Miley Cyrus presented the ultimate choice award to pop star Britney Spears.
Journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee arrive home to their families at Hangar 25 on August 5, 2009 in Burbank, California after being released by North Korean authorities yesterday.
Ling and Lee, of San Francisco based Current TV, were both arrested by North Korea in March for illegally entering the country on the Chinese border.
Yesterday they were pardoned by President Kim Jong-Il after a meeting with former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Ling and Lee had been sentenced to 12 years in prison in June.
